Awards

Awards are often given at conventions. They can be for written works, film, television, fan or professional work, art, or anything else having to do with speculative fiction.

 

Some of the more prominent Science Fiction awards include:

 

  • Hugo Award. Named for early 20th Century editor Hugo Gernsback, awarded at the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), and voted on by members of the convention. Several categories are awarded. Hugo Awards Website

  • Locus Award. Named for and awarded by Locus Magazine. Voting is open to the all members of the public, based on a short-list provided by the magazine. Several categories are awarded.

  • Seiun Award. Given by the Federation of Science Fiction Fan Groups of Japan at the Japanese National Convention, Nihon SF Taikai. Awarded in several categories for Japanese works. The Awards for Translation to Japanese has often been presented in concert with the Hugo Awards at Worldcon.

  • British Science Fiction Association Award. Given by their namesake, they honor British Science Fiction only. They are voted on by BSFA members and members of Eastercon, the British national science fiction convention. BSFA Awards Website
